Besides simply cleaning your kitchen counters, for good reasons you should regularly disinfect kitchen countertops, cooking areas, sinks, and fixtures. But it’s important to make sure you use an EPA registered disinfectant that’s safe for food prep areas.
How To Disinfect Kitchen Countertops – Granite, Quartzite, & Quartz
AIRx Spray N Go Disinfectant is made for medical facilities due to its germ-killing and deodorizing abilities. It actually kills 99.9% of bacteria in 5 seconds. And since it is EPA registered safe for food prep areas, Spray N Go is an excellent choice to sanitize and disinfect kitchen countertops like granite and quartz. NOTE: This product is not to be used on marble countertops!
First, clean visible dirt and grime from the countertops. Then apply disinfectant on granite and quartz countertops with a trigger hand sprayer. Hold the sprayer about 8” from the surface and spray the area until visibly wet. Let Spray N Go sit for 2 minutes. Then either let the product dry on its own or wipe up with a cloth. On countertops and other areas that contact food, be sure to rinse after disinfecting with potable tap water.

Sanitize Kitchen Counters Killing Viruses & Bacteria
Be sure to see the AIRx Spray N Go label for the list of bacteria and viruses that the product is effective against. The list of nasty creatures, along with the spelling, was more than I wanted to deal with for a kitchen countertop disinfecting article. Actually, the label shows Special Instructions for cleaning and decontaminating against HIV-1, HBV, and HCV.
Is Your Disinfectant Safe For Food Prep Areas?
Even though AIRx Spray N Go an EPA registered disinfectant is safe for food prep areas, you still need to rinse areas after treatment with water. But other disinfectants not safe for food prep areas can be dangerous. Be sure to check the label and specs on any disinfectant you consider for surfaces that contact food. Since Covid, I’m more focused on disinfecting surfaces now than ever, especially in the kitchen.
Other Areas To Sanitize & Disinfect
Besides disinfecting kitchen countertops, AIRx Spray N Go is also recommended for these areas: Hospitals, Clinics, & Healthcare Settings, Daycare Centers, Veterinary Facilities & Rooms, Animal Transportation Vehicles, Gyms, Health Clubs, & Spas, Athletic Facilities, Shopping Areas & Grocery Stores, Shopping Carts, Bathroom Toilets, Sinks, & Fixtures, Garbage Cans everywhere, Child Seats.

Is Cleaning Granite With UV-C Light Effective?
A UV-C light wand was once thought to be an effective way to disinfect kitchen countertops both quartz and granite. You simply passed the UV light wand over surfaces and fabrics to kill 99% of germs and microscopic creatures.
UV-C (ultraviolet) light is proven to destroy viruses, mold, bacteria, and dust mites. In fact, ultraviolet light disinfection has been proven safe to use in clinics, hospitals, and laboratories . . . for over 60 years! However, light wands became questionable a few years ago. Too many cheap models were being promoted and they did not live up to their claims of effectiveness. They were simply too good to be true – inexpensive, effective, and versatile.
I used a light wand for several years, but never had any clue if it worked (since I never did any tests to prove it). Thankfully, we have effective, inexpensive, food prep area safe spray disinfectants available.
